When a new year approaches, it is only natural to feel like you should make some changes for a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life. Luckily, with effort and dedication, you can make these positive adjustments a reality. Coach Eddie Andrist knows how important it is to keep your health and mind in check, so we have some great tips for how to live your best life in 2023.
1. Eat Well and Exercise
It is common for many of us to make a resolution to eat healthier and lose weight in the new year, but, according to Shape magazine, you can make that goal a reality by dedicating a portion of every week to exercise. Every morning, start your day by running outside, getting on an exercise bike, or taking a nature hike so you can get the blood flowing and burn calories. Spending time outdoors will also help with your mental health so you can start each day with a clear mind.
As far as eating, instead of looking to fast food which includes harmful trans fats, you should eat healthy options that include protein like fish. And when you feel like snacking, skip the chips and eat almonds instead. And don’t forget to take advantage of the benefits of your morning cup of Joe! In moderation, coffee has been shown to do a lot more than provide a needed energy boost. In fact, coffee may lower your risk of diabetes, increase your brain health, and support heart health!
If these all sound like really big lifestyle changes, think smaller. It’s better to take small steps towards a better you than to get overwhelmed and stop trying. Instead of starting with a daily run, start walking to errands or even to work. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Swap out water for a few of your sugary drinks during the day. Each of these changes will leave you feeling a little healthier, and a little more confident in taking the next, slightly larger, step.
2. Set the Tone in Your Living Space
Is your home a source of negativity? You’ll know if there’s excessive complaining or bickering amongst family members, or if people are playing the blame game. Look around and see how you can remove sources of stress, such as decluttering and cleaning. You may incorporate a few houseplants, as well as opening up blinds and curtains to allow more natural light to shine through. The goal is to replace bad vibes with good ones, which will make all the tips in this post much easier to accomplish.
3. Set Achievable Goals
In addition to being healthier, you can make other achievable goals that you can work towards in the new year. A big goal that many people set is figuring out how to find a better job or get a promotion at an existing company. If you need a little more help on this front, then you may want to return to school to achieve a new degree, such as earning a bachelor of computer science. A degree in computer science which can teach you everything you need to know about areas like AI, data structure, and systems, so you can bring your work performance to the next level and find your dream job.
4. Care for Your Body
While you can exercise and work hard to reach your goals, if you don’t get enough sleep then you are not treating your body as well as possible. Doctors recommend getting seven to nine hours of sleep every night. Verywell Health explains there are many benefits to getting enough sleep including being rested the next day so you can fit in your fitness and be ready to do your best at work. Good sleepers also tend to eat fewer calories, have improved concentration, and limit their chances of stroke and heart disease.
It’s also important not to overlook the health of your skin and hair. Your skin is your largest organ, and it is exposed to the elements every day. So treat it with the respect it deserves. Not only will a facial and hair treatment make your body feel better, it is the kind of self-care you need to feel your best this year.
5. Start a New Hobby
A great way to put your mind to good use in the new year is to start a new hobby. You could either learn a new skill that can further your career or it could be a fun hobby like woodworking or model building which will expand your mind and give you great lessons that you can teach your kids and grandchildren. You could also try a hobby that can earn you some money on the side like making jewelry or blogging online. Having a side hustle is a great way to buy some nice things for yourself.
Find Your Balance for 2023 As you can see, with dedication and willingness to succeed, there are many ways that you can live a healthier life this year. It’s all about balance. Get more sleep, and eat fewer trans fats. Enjoy your coffee, and keep your body moving. And check into online education options to land that job you’ve always wanted.
