Breaking Down Your Film

One of the services I provide with the Run and Jump Press is free evaluation of your game film.  It is ALWAYS GOOD to get another “set of eyes” looking at your team.  Below is an example evaluation.  Several times during your season, you should have someone do a “scouting report” on your team.  VERY VALUABLE!

Hello Coach and thanks for sending the film-   I am excited that you are having a fantastic year and the R&J is working well for you.  I really like your team and the game you sent was a great watch.  It was a great game and you were right there.  Below are my thoughts and ideas for you to consider.  Your opponent

  • Ran a well-coordinated press attack with cutters and flashers.
  • Was able to operate at a COMFORTABLE level against the press!
  • Was able to get DOWN HILL on you.
  • Had a definite game plan to ATTACK your press.
  • Did NOT CLEAR you out or SPACE you out.
  • Had several press breaker actions including a 1-4.

Above you can see the two areas that MUST BE corrected and adjusted.  It is a process.  Below is what I see with your R&J press.

  • R&J Press overall solid, effective, and comfortable with good rotation and understanding.
  • R&J Press resembled more, straight up MM and not as much R&J.
  • R&J Press did not do a lot of jumping OR trapping until later in 2nd half.
  • R&J Press played more conservative.  Not enough ball pressure.
  • R&J Press struggled with downhill action.
  • R&J Press somewhat predictable due to MM straight up.

Below are some things that I believe you could work on to become more effective:

  • As a changeup, take your player OFF the ball (21 look) and place them back in the middle.  They then become a spy and this will help to STOP some downhill action.  This also allows greater ball pressure as you are already in GREAT position.
  • Teach and use BLACK (faceoff) as a changeup to make your opponent MORE UNCOMFORTABLE!
  • TRAP- TRAP- TRAP- more often.  You had a ton of Trap Opportunities that you did not take. Great trapping makes you more dangerous.
  • Get UGLY–  Sometimes we need to take the chains off and let the players go –TRAP/RUN/ROTATE/JUMP/PRESSURE– Become not quite so safe and not quite so conservative.

Those are my thoughts coach.  I am here for you!!!  If you ever want to chat, give me a call.  Coach Eddie
