Understanding the Madness

The Run and Jump Press antagonizes!  The Run and Jump Press is in the harassment business! So WHY do some coaches look at the Run and Jump Press and yet STRUGGLE to use it or continue it!  I believe it is because they do not truly understand the MADNESS!

Sometimes after great games against great opponents, our fans might ask why the Run and Jump Press appeared ineffective because “we hadn’t caused that many turnovers!”  I continued to educate our fans on the intent of the R&J as listed above. During many of these great games, we had taken a 50% FG shooting team and 45% 3FG, holding them to statistics like, 33% FG and 26% 3FG shooting.  Thus, the Run and Jump Press had been EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE!

Defensive Field Goal Percentage is a monumental key statistic for any successful program.  Many coaches focus on the halfcourt defense while we focus on the full court into the half court.

Coaches and Players want to see something that directly identifies success.  If they can’t grab it or touch it, they themselves get uncomfortable.  Changing a habit that you and your players have, is going to cause discomfort.  We can’t do anything about that.  But what we can do is embrace our relationship with discomfort.
