One Minute Game

The GAME INSIDE THE GAME!!!   COACHING and TEACHING “the Game” is all about “Connecting the Dots.”  It is never easy to do.  So HOW do we make the Run and Jump Press, THE GAME?   Well, you need to put your team into situations where the Run and Jump Press is their last chance for SURVIVAL.

HERE’S THE GAME:

  • Your Team is Down (8)
  • (1) Minute to Go
  • You have ALL your Time Outs

Your team is shooting one free throw.  Have the clock set on one minute with the score something like 48-40.  We are NOW going to “Connect Some Dots.”    Make or Miss we are Pressing.  We have trained for this.

If we MAKE – 

  • We are BLACK to RED to FOUL!!

Deny the Ball Inbounds HARD!  If they get it IN– TRAP!  If it comes out of the TRAP – FOUL.  We are TEACHING the GAME IS NOT OVER!

If we MISS –   

  • We TRAP the REBOUNDER to STEAL!!

If the Ball comes OUT of the Rebounder Trap we FOUL– When we foul, it is a Bonus Free Throw on the other end.

OFFENSIVELY- 

  • SPRINT the Floor.
  • LOOK to PENETRATE
  • Shoot EITHER 3ball or Layup
  • Absolutely NO Turnovers
  • All (5) Hit the O Glass
  • Make a Play- Don’t Run a Play

When your opponent misses their Free Throws, there can NEVER be an offensive rebound.  You must secure that Rebound!  TOTALLY TABOO!  We need to LEARN HOW TO WIN!!

Attack the basket, as your opponent does NOT want to FOUL you.  After we score a basket, we CALL TIME OUT!  This is so we can STOP THE CLOCK and set the Run and Jump Press!  We are TEACHING the GAME IS NEVER OVER!

In practice, you can make the deficit, (7-8-9-10) anything you want.  During a real game, you can call out (1 min game) when you feel your team is a bit sluggish (minus the fouls of course).  Give the (1 min game) a name.  You should practice this game NO MATTER what you do defensively or offensively.  TEACH YOUR TEAM HOW TO WIN!!
